Yes, it is! They were nearly exterminated in the 1880s.
Your wonderful photo brought back happy memories of our visits to Custer State Park. We saw bison all around the park, including the lawn in front of the lodge.
Glad it brought back some good memories, Beth. There was a bicycle race going on right through the bison herds on the road. Kinda crazy!
