I saw this Northern river otter on ice a few days ago along the Deschutes River in Bend. If you walk early in the morning, as I like to do, you’ll get to witness magical moments such as this one.

Amazing photo
Thanks, Kristie! I was lucky to spot it. 🙂
OMG – this is amazing! some of my favorite animals!
Thanks, Pam! I took it from the flag bridge in Old Mill. 🙂
Sooo cool!
I love otters! Of course, I haven’t seen any in a while in the ocean in southern California (too warm), so it’s really cool to see a river otter! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome! They’re so fun to watch. I’ve seen sea otters in Washington state, but never farther south.
There’s still some in Monterey Bay, south of San Francisco, but not nearly as many as there were in the 80s and 90s. It is sad.
Oh, sorry to hear that. Hope they survive a changing environment. 🤞
Seeing an otter is a handsome reward for an early wake-up. Of course we de Wets agree wholeheartedly with you!
Yes, as you know, you can see way more wildlife early in the day. I always enjoy seeing the critters you and your family “capture” in a picture. 🙂
I love this – such a perfect silhouette! And ideal for a monochrome shot 🙂
Thanks, Sarah! Yes, it was a perfect candidate for black & white.
