The rocks I remember may rest on the slopes of extinct volcanoes
And show cryptic carved messages created years ago
Obsidian rocks may shine in shades of reddish brown with the spots of a leopard
And sparkle like gems, cut and polished by the forces of nature
The rocks I remember may have been flaked and chipped by ancient hands
Or painted in the recent past to show the animal hidden within
The rocks may have unique colors and rough textures
Or, like giant eggs, be full of hidden crystal treasures waiting to be discovered

Wow, Siobhan! Such great examples. It’s interesting how people have painted on rocks for centuries. Today stories are told on computers, and with art on the walls of buildings.
I love that owl. I always enjoy creative rock painting.
Thanks, John! Glad you liked the owl I painted. I love all the murals we see nowadays! 😀
I loved all of this! So unique in your grasp of the challenge. Glass Butte looks fascinating. You find the coolest places to explore Siobhan, and I love the way you describe them/your impressions. Hidden crystals, textures, painted in the recent past, and leopard spots! And even though the petroglyphs have a physical message, your entire post talks of messages to look for. Well done,
Thanks from a fellow rock lover. When I saw your prompt, I thought, “Yippee!” Then when I started looking for photos related to rocks, I thought, “Uh oh.” I have TONS of rock pictures, as I’m sure you do too. Thanks for the great prompt, Donna!
Thank YOU. Ya…narrow, narrow, narrow. lol
All a geologist’s dream, for sure.
Art
Yes, they are, Art! And all can be found within an hour of so from my home. 🙂
I knew you would have an amazing post this week Siobhan, and you did not disappoint! I loved your choices and I have no doubt you had way too many to choose from 😊. I think the petroglyphs are my favorite but they are all wonderful, as I expected!
Thank you, Tina! Yes, I have a lot of pictures of rocks because we seek them out on excursions, near and far. 😁
I liked your approach to the challenge very much, Siobhan. Your text was perfect, too. Beautiful gallery.
Thanks so much, Egodio!
Wonderful variety here Siobhan! I love the leopard-skin obsidian (I’ve never seen anything like that) and the thundereggs, while I’m always completely fascinated by petroglyphs, thinking about the people who created them so long ago 🙂
Thanks, Sarah! I’m lucky to live where so many treasures, created by nature or people of the past, are close by.
Owl be darned. Love those petroglyphs, and that obsidian is awesome! Well done.
Thanks, John! Yes, I love petroglyphs too. I have LOTS of obsidian I’ve collected, inside my house and out. 😀
I love your close-up look at rocks. That leopard rock is beautiful and I wish I’d thought of petroglyphs. Greatly enjoyed this.
janet
Thanks, Janet! There are lots of beautiful rocks near me and where you live as well. 🙂
Love the owl, but that obsidian is a showstopper!
Yeah, that’s one of my favorite pieces of obsidian.
Looking forward to PLAYA at Summer Lake! I’ll look at it differently this trip!
Me too! See you there. 🙂
