Are these headdresses from the Great Basin tribes or are they on display and from Great Plains peoples? Asking because this style is a not a universal style and I’m just curious. Thanks!
These are from Plateau tribes, mostly north of the Great Basin. See this link that shows a map and describes some of their clothing. https://highdesertmuseum.org/earth-and-sky/
Thanks for that information. Fascinating. My great, great grandparents settled in the Okanogan after coming out west after the Civil War near what is the Colville Reservation. My great grandfather was good friends with some of the tribe and they made a hand beaded fawn skin coat and vest for my father when he was a toddler. I have them in shadow boxes. Some of my most treasured possessions. They were Plateau tribes.
You are welcome! We camped northeast of Tonasket in September every year over a few decades. Beautiful area! You are lucky to have such precious mementos from your relative. I LOVE beadwork. ❤️
