I saw this Western Bluebird at a park in Bend, Oregon. At our house, a ten-minute drive away, we only see Mountain Bluebirds. Both species have brilliant blue plumage, but the Western Bluebird males wear a “vest” of rust-orange.
It was nice to see this guy making sure he was following all the park rules and regulations. 😉

Love it!
Pretty little blue & orange gems.
How cool! I see lots of mountain blubirds and California jays here, but never this! Would you expect them to be further south?
It was early in the morning, so the light wasn’t great. The blue and orange plumage are vivid. Both species live here for at least part of the year. Looks like they could breed in WA, east of Puget Sound. See All About Birds site.
What a handsome fellow!
The bright orange color on their breast is similar to your robins. Pretty little birds!
Lovely to see a blue bird. Ours only seem to have patches of blue too in Europe.
Thanks! Our Mountain Bluebirds are even bluer.
