In early May 2017, we visited the national parks in Utah. With temperatures in the 90s, we didn’t exactly avoid the desert’s heat, but we were happy to see Arches National Park in bloom.
These plants grow well under the hot, sunny conditions. Here are a few of the plants we saw in bloom. Some are big and bold; others are small and subtle.

Great adventure
Beautiful series under the sun. These plants are tough in the heat.
Thanks, Amy! Yes, they are tough plants.
We had plans to visit the Utah parks this past May. Needless to say it was canceled. We’ve rescheduled for next year. We are hopeful and looking forward to seeing what the parks have to offer. Nice photos!!
Thanks! I hope you can go next year. We had to postpone our Yellowstone trip.
Here’s to a much better 2021!! 😊
Your pictures remind us of our trip to Arches. And I can remember thinking, "How does anything grow there?" It's a miracle, I guess. And so are your lovely photos.
Thanks! Sorry for the delayed response. WordPress put your comment in Spam. ☹️ I hope you can return to Arches someday to see the beauty of the desert.
Thanks for letting me know my comments may be going to spam!!! Nevertheless, my intentions were honorable -- you have a lovely blog, and I enjoyed the post!
In such harsh environments beauties like these really stand out!
Yes, they do! It's amazing how they can survive.
Beautiful. Arches is a great place.
Yes, it was pretty in the spring!
It amazes me that plants can thrive in those conditions Siobhan. Lovely choice for the week
Thanks! It can get really hot there but the plants find a way. 🌞
