About Bend Branches
Branching out from Bend, Oregon, this blog will dazzle you with facts about nature, history, culture, and what to do in this area and beyond. You may see occasional glimpses of my sense of humor. It is about as twisted as the juniper trees in my yard here in the High Desert of Bend. If my words don’t dazzle you enough, you’ll also see many of my photos and some of my drawings and paintings. Good writing is supposed to make you “see” what is being written about but including images sure can help!
There are lots of places to visit around here and things to see. I hope when you visit my blog that you’ll see things in a different (and positive) light. Pictures, prose, and poetry fill up my blog. Enjoy!
If you are still reading this you may want to know more about me and my background. My name is Siobhan and I have a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a master’s degree in Environmental Science. Many years ago, I worked as a wildlife biologist in Washington State and eastern Oregon. I served for nearly 12 years as a school board member. Art is a part of who I am and I express it through my writing, photography, and artwork. My drawings have appeared in several publications. Early American history has always interested me. It is well preserved near where I live so there are lots of opportunities to write about it. Rocks also interest me and they are one of the reasons I moved here.
I have volunteered for various nonprofits and currently work at the High Desert Museum. At the Museum, I help with editing, layout, and writing of the newsletter for volunteers, High Desert Voices. To see past issues, go here. In September of 2015, I received the “Rookie of the Year” award for my volunteer work at the Museum.
