On a winter walk
down my block
A dusting of snow
shows which way to go
Fences of wood, wire, and stone
divide us, and leave us all alone
Daggers and spikes form
along edges once warm
An ancient one awakens
speaking of directions not taken
On a winter walk
down my block
A warm sunrise glow
shows which way to go
