Today Iโll be featuring a photo of a 1935 Chevrolet fire truck on display at the High Desert Museum in Bend, Oregon, edited three ways. This truck, pieced together with parts from trucks in Prineville and Lakeview, Oregon, was restored to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Smokey Bear. For years, Smokey Bear has been reminding people how to prevent wildfires.
Iโll show a pair of pictures with and without editing effects. Slide the slider to see the full images. I use Corel Paintshop Pro software to edit my photos.
The first pair shows the original picture and one using the Hot Wax Coating Artistic Effect. I like how it almost looks like a pen and ink drawing with color added.
The second pair shows the original picture and one using a Retro Lab Photo Effect. The effect darkened the whole picture. I loved how it and gave the chrome details a warm brass color.
The third pair shows the original picture and one using an Infrared Film Photo Effect. This black and white image has a soft glow to it. Infrared is one of my favorite effects.
Sunday Stills host, Terri Webster Schrandt, asked if we think photo editing is fun or fraught. For me, it has always been fun. When taking pictures, I often imagine editing them in ways that will make them shine. Photo editing programs offer countless possibilities!

Thanks for sharing your techiques to enhance photos.
Thank you, Ralph!
Nice. I love the way the editing changes the mood of a photo. I like the uniqueness of the Hot Was edit. It almost looks like a cartoon to me.
Thanks, Donna! Yes, I agree, it does look like a cartoon. ๐
As well as liking the original photo, I really like the Retro Lab photo effect.
And I like the Infrared film photo effect.
Thanks, Liz! I had fun trying out different effects.
The retro lab photo effect really puts a nice glossy shine on the fire truck.
Yes, it does! ๐
These are great, Siobhan! Thank you for demonstrating your process with each image and your thoughts on editing. I love the green Chevy as a stand alone image, but wow, the infrared effect is amazing!
Thanks! Yes, the original image was good and the effects I used made interesting details stand out.
Great photos and edits, Siobhan. I do like the infrared and glow edit you created.
Thanks, Egodio! You can see why I like using infrared. ๐
Good fun Siobhan from a fellow PaintShop Pro user ๐๐ฅฐ
Thanks! You are the first person I've met (virtually) who uses that program. It works great for me. ๐ท
I love it. I started on version 9 I think and have always upgraded since then. I went the full Ultimate a few years ago.
Still can't use all of the functions. When I do, the tutorials are very good :)
I was going to update mine again this year, but I don't think there's a new version. I'll check out the Ultimate next year.
I think the next one will be 2025 as they released 2023 at the end of 2022 to subscribers
Photo editing is an art form in itself! :) My favourite is the black and white one.
Thanks, Debbie! Yes, I liked the black and white one too.
Definitely fun for me, amd I especially like the middle version of this shot ๐
Thanks, Sarah! The warm tones in that one made it special.
Those are so fun!
Thanks, Kirstin! Glad you liked them.
Great editing. I did a similar post with the image slider. It was a fun exercise
Thanks, Alison! I love that slider tool.
