These places show contrasts in voice, feeling, and appearance.
A place’s voice can be quiet or loud.
The quietness of a vast sandy desert
And the pounding presence of a waterfall.
A place can feel ethereal or slightly evil.
Snowy mountains floating above the heavens
And water churning in deep bowls on the edge of the underworld.
A place’s appearance can be obscured or shine bright.
Cool blankets covering the sharpness of winter
And the glimmer of golden flowers in summer sun.
Contrasts are all around us, waiting for a lens to turn their way.

Some beautiful opposites Siobhan, your part of the world is definitely glorious! I must admit I didn't realize Oregon had a desert area as I always think of its oceanfront vistas. As always, very much appreciate your joining us!
Thanks, Tina! Yeah, the Alvord Desert is 12 miles long by 7 miles wide. It gets about 7 inches of rain a year.
Great photos! I especially love the water photos 😊
Thank you, Lisa! Yeah, the waterfall and the punch bowl were great subjects for pictures.
Beautiful images! Love your take on. Mt Rainier above the clouds is a remarkable image. :)
Thanks, Amy! I always try to reserve my airplane seats on the best side to see the mountains. :)
👍👍
Fantastic choices. I love that you personified some of the images to help us feel a places voice. Etheral, evil. Loved this. My favorite, Devils Punchbowl.
Thank you! The Devil's Punchbowl was well named.
I'm not sure if I love the words or photos more! Gorgeous!
Thanks, Bonnie! Glad you liked that post.
Great choice of photos and I loved your accompanying text too, drawing out the opposites in these contrasting places. And I never knew there was a desert in Oregon - certainly we didn't come across it!
Thank you, Sarah! Yes, the Alvord Desert is in the rain shadow of Steens Mountain in eastern Oregon. There's a hot spring there that I visited long ago (when it was free).
Love this! All the photos are gorgeous.
Even within a small area, the contrasts of seasons are amazing to observe.
Thanks, Becky! I had fun with that challenge.
Beautiful images.
Thank you! 😊
Excellent choices! Love it that you included sound.
Thanks, Ann-Christine! Those places sounded very different.
GREAT comparisons!
Thank you, John!
