Here’s a picture of three young swallows perched in a willow tree at Sunriver, Oregon waiting for a snack. The fledglings are usually fed by the parents but sometimes they are fed by older siblings from a previous clutch.
Weekly Photo Challenge – Growth
This is amazing! I can imagine your delight when you were able to take this photo. I particularly liked learning that older siblings sometimes feed their kin. Lyn
Thanks! I too was impressed with that info about the siblings.
I love this. I love Barn Swallows and had many generations nest each year under a back door roof. I could stand at my window, just 3 feet away and watch the whole life cycle, including what you wrote about.
A few years back, they found a new nesting place but every May, I still see the scouts, swirling in the sky above my house, looking for their last-year’s home I guess.
I wish they’d come back.
Thanks so much for your post. Let me know if you’d like to read mine on Barn Swallows. I’d be honored to share it.
Happy New Year and Growth.
Thanks! Yes, they are a beautiful bird. You’re lucky to have had them nest at your house.
Yes, I would like to read what you’ve written about them.
Here is one I wrote about a special Barn Swallow.

You got some great shots of the fledglings (and your cats watching them). They are so cute!
I loved that little bird. He did try to fly often when he was that age but he must have been concussed or something because he kept flying crooked and right into things. Poor little guy. But eventually he ventured out successfully and we think we saw him the next season.
And I LOVE Bend. My best friend lives in Sisters.
We love living here! ♥️
Well spotted!

I was on a bird walk and they just sat there and posed for us. 😀

Fun capture – had no idea siblings would care for each other – very cool!!
Thanks! That was news to me too.
